Of Interest to WWII Vets
World War II veterans are being offered free trips to Washington, D.C., by an organization called Honor Flight. Those who served can sign up with the Frank Gallino American Legion Post 130 in Nevada County. Those eligible do not have to be affiliated with any veteran groups, according to Legion Commander Roger Haines. All they have to do is contact him at (530) 478-0488 for an application, and the flights are secured when enough people sign up. The three-day trip from Sacramento to Washington, D.C., includes a stay at a good hotel, restaurant food and bus transportation to memorials. Those in walkers, wheelchairs or needing oxygen are eligible, and any veteran needing help during the stay will be taken care of by Honor Flight guardians, Haines said.
